Arrival of new Kalmar ECH - NCT the first with the best !
03 June 2006
Another new addition to NCT's growing fleet of ground support equipment arrived recently in the form of 6 new Kalmar empty container handlers. These state of art units will make a big contribution to the terminal's ability to handle empty containers and speed up the uploading of consignee's trucks and handling within the terminal. As for the 2 previous units; these machines will be progressively modified in our own workshops to be able to handle 2 empty 20 foot containers together, the only twin lift capable empty container handlers in the world, another first for the NCT
BREAKING NEWS

Over the next year we expect to increase our throughput from the 2005 level of 1.25 million to around 1.5 million.  To do this we need more equipment and additional stacking area so we took the decision some months ago to order more equipment and develop more stacking areas in the terminal.

Equipment

20 more Terberg terminal tractors which are currently in transit from Europe.

6 more Kalmar empty container handlers which are also on their way.  These will be modified to have twin lift capability in our workshops when they arrive.

10 more Liebherr 65 tonne twin lift rubber tyred gantry cranes which are expected to arrive in the third quarter of 2006.

We are also building in house a further 20 65 tonne cornerless trailers for use with the terminal tractors.  These will be put into service progressively as they are completed.

Lastly we are reviewing the requirement for reefer slots and will be taking steps to increase our reefer gantries with more of our construction to augment the 1,000 slots we already have on the terminal.

Stacking Areas
Stacking area for an additional 10,000 TEUs has been completed during the last year and space for a further 4,000 will be added during 2006.  Consideration is now being given to further areas that can be developed to ensure that there is never a shortage of space for your various cargos.

Navis Software Upgraded : Express 2.4

On 09th April 2004, GSCCo upgraded container management system from express 2.0 to express 2.4.  The primary objective of the move being boosting the performance and thus providing a much more accelerated services to GSCCo’s customers.  Processes such as export customs holding was made automated based on the container status. Billing procedures were simplified and speeded up with the ability of now being able to process bulk invoicing while recording the payment.  Enhanced versions of edi such as baplie, codeco, coarri, x12-309 were introduced to the system to cater the existing and foreseen needs. New modules were introduced to handle dray-in, dray-off gate moves efficiently.

Together with the express, the interfacing software, which is responsible to manage message transfers between express & sparcs, was upgraded to the new java version.  New interface raised the stability of its continued functionality even during heavy operational hours and made the synchronization between the two systems even more reliable.
