The Teklogix wireless
data communications systems interface with
GCTN’s host computer system, providing GCTN
with real – time information management,
significantly improving efficiency throughout
the operation and raising the overall level of
control and customer service.
| Benefits include
faster container turnaround, increased
productivity and throughput, greater accuracy
and fewer errors as well as improved space and
equipment utilization.A combination of hand – held
and vehicle – mounted RF terminals are used
across the terminal, which are controlled
by the network controller and base stations.

Because
the terminal operates 24/7, the wireless data
systems provide full hot redundancy, should
a problem occur with any of the base stations.
Narrow – band technology is in use at the
terminal.
Narrow – band
is used to transmit data to and from about
16 hand – held Teklogix terminals, which are
used for tracking container movements during
loading and unloading and for checking container
locations and status. Operating in the 450
– 470 MHz band, narrow – band technology,
provides the necessary coverage and penetration
needed within the congested container terminal,
where the stacks of containers can interfere
with other types of radio transmission.
2.4 GHz narrow
– band radio technology is used for data transfer
between the 60 vehicle – mounted Teklogix
terminals installed in Rubber – Tyred Gantry
Cranes, Reach Stackers and terminal tractors,
which are used for container handling. |
